Barbara Jones has served as the Anchorage Municipal Clerk since July 2012.  As the Municipal Clerk, Jones is responsible for managing a staff of eleven regular employees. The Clerk’s Office supports the Anchorage Assembly and Assembly Boards such as the Board of Ethics, conducts fair elections, accurately manages the records created by the Assembly, and reviews and issues marijuana and certain other business licenses. Prior to her appointment as Clerk, Jones served as the Anchorage Ombudsman from January 2011-July 2012, and as Executive Director and Staff Attorney for the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission from 1999-2011.  Jones received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and her law degree from the University of Denver. She has also received her Certified Municipal Clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. Jones has been involved with the Alaska Bar Association and its Law Related Education Committee, and the Alaska Association of Municipal Clerks. She has also been involved in other community organizations, including the Arthritis Foundation and Girl Scouts.
