Leslie Ishii is the Artistic Director of Perseverance Theatre and an actor, director, voice practitioner, activist, and community builder.  She is Yonseifourth generation Japanese American. While a teenager, she debuted as an actor in Northwest Asian American Theaters Breaking the Silence and raised legal funds for WWII US concentration camp resister Gordon Hirabayashi and his Supreme Court case. Since experiencing her community's tremendous emotional response to this, Leslie has felt called to advocate for historical truth, healing, and storytelling of Black/Indigenous/People of Color artists and communities. She maintains ongoing relationships with legacy BIPOC theatres around the country and continues to collaborate on facilitation teams, teach, and serve in coalition on national committees and panels to dismantle white supremacy culture in the American Theatre.
